Athlete Breaks Records

Athlete Breaks Records Maricelle Kruger, a rising star in the Griqualand West Athletics stable, over the weekend raced into the record books by breaking her own Provincial 800 meter record as well as the 1500 meter distance record. Kruger’s trainer Theo Senekal senior said they achieved this remarkable feat during the University of the North West’s Top 30 athletics meet in Potchefstroom.

Senekal said his young charge “redefined herself, her sport and in turn redefined our ideas about physical and gender limitations. This young athlete brought all she is into the public arena, into the competition and made us watch”.

Senekal said Kruger’s idolized Caster Semenya who is SA and world champion in both races that Kruger participated in at the weekend. He said his charge was destined for yet more remarkable achievements in the middle distances in the near future.
